Elevating your business with corporate photography (your FAQs answered!)

I love photographing people (in case that isn’t already obvious!) and much of my work is in the world of weddings and portrait photography - but did you know I also spend a lot of my time doing corporate photography? 👀

It’s coming into that time of year - where plenty of businesses are thinking about updating their websites, inducting new team members, or generating annual reports. So I thought - what better time to pop together some of my most frequently asked questions around corporate and business photography!

First of all - what exactly is corporate photography? Essentially, it’s an umbrella for photos that businesses and corporates might need for their websites, social media, marketing materials, internal documents and training materials.

I specialise in working with medium to large scale businesses, often with dozens or hundreds of team members. But I also love working with small businesses too, to create professional imagery that puts them up alongside those big corporates. Don’t let the size of your business get in the way of getting tip-top brand imagery.

What types of corporate photography do you offer?
I cover a bit of everything, from headshots and team photos, to product shots, and quite often events (think awards ceremonies, conferences and workshops). Basically - just chat with me and I’m sure I can make it happen!

We have a huge team and it’s hard to get them all in the same place on the same day. How can we make that work?
When you’re dealing with dozens of different schedules, it can feel impossible to get everyone in one place at the same time for a group shot and headshots. With individual headshots, we can look at splitting this into two or more sessions to give options for your team and work with their availability.

Group photos are a little trickier, so if a full team photo is a must-have, I would prioritise finding a date and time that works for everyone. We can snap a team photo relatively quickly if everyone plays nicely!

What should me and the team wear for corporate headshots and team photos?
When preparing for corporate headshots, it's essential to dress professionally and in line with your company's brand image. First up - opt for clothing that is clean and well-fitted. Solid colors and classic styles tend to photograph well, and avoid distracting patterns or screen prints that may detract from your professional appearance.

Clothing is a great way to bring in tones from your brand’s colour palette, so if you’re considering bringing in a bit of colour, go for pops of colours from your colour palette (that doesn’t mean dressing head to toe in blue, but rather adding a couple of light blue accessories or a pale blue button up shirt to keep things cohesive).

Any tips for helping my team prepare for photos? It’s like herding cats!
Start out by chatting with me, and providing me with any necessary information or branding guidelines. We’ll work together to coordinate the logistics such as scheduling, location scouting, and any props or equipment needed from your team for the shoot.

Then, it’s time to communicate with your team members - I recommend providing them with clear instructions regarding their clothing, hair, and makeup.  Best to send an email so they have it in writing, and send a reminder the day before (nothing worse than being caught off-guard for photos!)

How long will it take to receive our photos?
The turnaround time for receiving your corporate photos depends on a bunch of different factors, like how many people are in your team and how much retouching is required.

As a guide, you can expect to receive your final edited photos within 1-2 weeks after the photo shoot. Got a deadline or something specific you need the photos for? Let me know and I can make sure we all have realistic expectations. Remember - the final results will be worth the wait 😉

Do you edit and retouch the photos? Yes! Your final images will be edited and lightly retouched (but we still want your faces to look like your faces!)

I make sure that your images look polished and professional, which includes color correction, exposure adjustments, cropping, and minor retouching to enhance the overall quality of the photos. If there’s anything specific you need, make sure you let me know beforehand.

Where do we take the photos - in our office or somewhere else?
That’s up to you! I can bring lighting gear and backdrops to you and we can set up a wee studio space in your office, we can do more lifestyle-based imagery in your workspace, we can head to an outdoor location, or you can come out to my studio in Aotea.

We want to do outdoor photos but it’s Wellington - what do we do if the weather is bad?
Ahhh, Wellington and it’s unpredictable weather. If we’ve opted to take the photos outside, we’ll keep a close eye on the weather forecast in the lead up to your photoshoot, and if it’s looking too wild, we can arrange a postponement date. I have a few outdoor locations that are sheltered from the wind, so we can always head to a different spot, or else we can head indoors.
