Wedding Inspriation: The dreamiest summer garden wedding

If you’re looking for real wedding inspiration and you’re ready for summer time - this one’s for you!

Chip and Adriana’s summer garden wedding was a perfect example of why summer weddings in New Zealand are so special (especially when the weather plays ball!). Lush landscapes and long summer evenings - oh, this one’s a goodie!

Today, I’m talking about the best bits of choosing a summer wedding (including tonnes of gorgeous visual inspiration from Chip and Adriana’s wedding day.

Keep in mind though - Wellington and the rest of Aotearoa offer so much in every season! People tend to opt for summer weddings for a number of reasons - hoping for good weather, venue availability, longer evenings, and just that sweet holiday feeling - but winter, autumn and spring weddings all have their own benefits (and it completely depends on the vibe you’re after!). But, as we’re heading into the summer season - it’s time to deep-dive into all the good bits of summer weddings.

Location opportunities (hint: there’s plenty!)
One of the greatest perks of a summer wedding is the variety of outdoor locations available - if the rain and wind steers clear, we have so many options for spaces and places to photograph. Chip and Adriana chose a picturesque garden setting at the stunning Anam Cara Gardens in Kapiti

Outdoor locations like gardens, vineyards, and beaches offer stunning backdrops and a naturally romantic atmosphere. The warmer weather also means you're less likely to need a backup indoor location, which can be a real plus!

Later sunset = more time for photos!
In summer, the sun sets much later, giving you more time to capture wedding photos, make the most of the gorgeous golden sunsets, and more time to party outside! Around 8-8.30pm tends to be prime time to pop out for some dreamy photos under the stunning skies.

Dreamy colour palettes
Summer weddings are known for their vibrant and dreamy colour palettes! Chip and Adriana chose a mix of soft pastels and bright, cheerful colours across their decor and styling. Absolutely love summer colours like blush pinks, light blues, and sunny yellows - they really pop in photos!

Summer treats
Going for a summer wedding? Think about incorporating classing NZ summer treats into the mix! Ice cream or ice block carts, summer cocktails - they’ll always go down well with guests and keep them busy while they’re mingling!

The sunshine (usually!)
Summer in Wellington can be absolutely gorgeous, with plenty of sunshine to illuminate your special day. Of course, it’s Wellington, so having a plan B for weather is always smart, but when the sun is shining - well, you know what they say - you can’t beat Wellington on a good day! Top tip - have plenty of water on tap, and sunscreen at the ready for guests to help themselves to.

Love a long weekend - and there’s plenty of them in summer!
Summer is full of long weekends, which are incredibly popular for weddings. Dates around public holidays like Waitangi Day or Wellington Anniversary Day are highly sought after, so it’s important to book early if you’re thinking of a long weekend wedding! Long weekends allow your guests to travel and enjoy a mini-holiday while celebrating your big day, making it more convenient for those coming from afar.

Seasonal florals
Oh, summer florals are just the best, aren’t they? Choosing flowers that are in season not only look stunning but are also more affordable and sustainable.
